How to Use Clickbank

One of the great things about Clickbank is that it’s really easy to use. You join Clickbank as a free member and that gives you access to thousands of products to promote.
If any of the forms that I link to don’t show then you will have turn off your ad blocking scripts.
How to Sign Up With Clickbank
- First off, go to their Promote Products page where you will get an overview of how what Clickbank is about.
- Click the “sign up” button on the right and fill out their form. Use a real email address, though it doesn’t have to be your main one. It should be one that you read occasionally. Clickbank won’t spam you, but they might send the occasional notice.
- You will need to come up with a user ID. This will uniquely identify your account with Clickbank. It can be the name of your site, your name, a random string of gibberish, or whatever. You will need to use it when you make a Clickbank product link and it will show up when people click to the product that you are promoting. For this reason you should put a little thought into your user ID.
- You might want to read the terms of service at the bottom of the sign-up form.
- Check the “I agree to all of this” box at the bottom and click that “submit” button.
- You will get an email asking your to verify that you are really you. Click that and you’re in.
By the way, there’s nothing wrong, illegal, immoral, or fattening about having several Clickbank accounts. You might want to to just that if you have several websites promoting Clickbank products.
How to Use Clickbank to Promote Products
Before you start you will need a couple of things:
- your Clickbank ID, which you obtained when you joined Clickbank (above.)
- Actually, #1 is all you need (other than a website or place to put your links.)
Clickbank has a Marketplace where you can browse products by category or by using their search field. When you hit that page you will see the categories on the left, some helpful info in the middle, and ads from sellers on the right.
Browse through the categories on the left. As you do so you will get a list of results in the center of the page. As an example I’ll use the Health and Fitness category, since that’s a pretty popular topic. At the top of the results page is this (reformatted by me, with comments added:)
The Diet Solution Program
Super High Converting Weight Loss & Nutrition Site With Awesome Sales Video Filled With Real Content. Find Out How You Can Cash In Too: http://www.thedietsolutionprogram.com/affiliates
- Avg $/sale: $45.91 – This is the total that the affiliate earns after all upsells.
- Stats: Initial $/sale: $43.43 – after all fees, returns (if any,) taxes, etc.
- Avg %/sale: 75.0% – This is the percentage that the affiliate gets from the sale price.
- Avg Rebill Total: $28.73 – If the vendor offers a membership program that bills monthly then this is what you will earn each month.
- Avg %/rebill: 75.0% – Your percentage of the rebill sale amount
- Grav: 408.22 – an arcane Clickbank calculation that has to do with how hot the product is now, how many affiliates are making sales, and a few other things, and probably includes the phase of the moon. Anything over 100 is pretty darn good and a gravity of 408 is extremely high.
- Cat: Health & Fitness : Diets & Weight Loss
To make your promotional link:
- Click the “Promote” button by the listing and a form will pop up. (If it doesn’t then turn off your ad/script blocker(s.))
- Plug your Clickbank user ID in the first field
- The second field is a “tracking ID” and is used to track where your sales come from.
- click “create”
- You will see a raw URL, that is mostly gibberish, and a full HTML link.
The URL will look like this: http://5a6c0io0ykqaks3pvzsozqfq05.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=HOWTOUSECLICKBANK
The “HOWTOUSECLICKBANK” part identifies this post. The rest of the gibberish is the encrypted version of the seller ID and your ID.
The HTML link is this <a href=”http://5a6c0io0ykqaks3pvzsozqfq05.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=HOWTOUSECLICKBANK”>Click Here!</a> and it will look like this on your page: Click Here!
What happens when that link is clicked is that a cookie is set on your computer (or whoever clicks the link.) The cookie identifies you to Clickbank so that your info is entered into their tracking system along with the seller’s info. If you click that link and look closely at the URL at the top of the page you will see hop=keepmoney somewhere on that line. keepmoney is one of my user IDs.
If you click the “Order the DSP” link under the video you will hit the Clickbank order form. Scroll to the very bottom and you will see this: [affiliate = keepmoney.howtouseclickbank]
That tells you that my ID carried through, as well as the tracking code. Note that you do not have to actually order the product to see that on the order form.
Exam time: get a Clickbank ID (yes, right now. You can always get another one later.) Once you have it use it to create a product link to any Clickbank product. Test your link. Do that by pasting the URL into your browser address field and going to that page. Find the “buy” button, get to the order form page, and scroll to the bottom. You should see your ID there, along with any tracking code you may have entered.
And that’s about all there is to it. I’ll post a “How to make Links” post later, but you should have enough info now to use your links.
How to Use Clickbank to buy Products
Just follow the appropriate parts of the above section. Find a product that looks right to you and does what you need, just as if you were buying it off of Amazon. Click the buy button, fill out the order form, and follow all instructions carefully. You will hit a download page where you can click a link to get your product. You should also receive an email giving you the correct download link.
100% of Clickbank products are digital downloads (eg: ebooks or software) or membership sites or something close to that. That is, there are no physical products available directly, though some vendors sell physical products through and alternate source.
How to Use Clickbank to Sell Your Products
This is somewhat more complicated than the above. Clickbank’s page on the subject is here. You will need to have several things:
- An actual finished product of some kind. It can be a set of videos, an ebook, your killer software widget, a membership site, and so on.
- A domain and website for your sales page, thank you page, and download pages as well as the product to be downloaded.
- A clickbank ID.
- $50
- Some ability to offer customer support
- An affiliates page is recommended, but not required.
Detailed steps to getting your product up are on this page. Basically, you’re going to join Clickbank, set up your domain and site, make a pitch page and a thank you page (where people can get your stuff.) Clickbank will have you make an order link and then test it.
When everything is working right you submit your product to Clickbank for approval. They will check over your product and your sales process and either approve it or tell you what you need to do to correct it.It takes a day or two for the initial approval request to be processed.
When that’s done you will send them the $50 and once that’s processed you are live.
Good luck!
PS: In addition to this article marketing course, which will help you to earn by promoting those Clickbank products with articles, Wealthy Affiliate offers a ClickBank “Product Finder.” The product finder will show you which products are hot, which are new, and will also let you search by categories. But you have to be a member to get it, to get the article course, and to get a huge number of other tools and resources. Check it out, here.
